In the early twentieth century, the firm WR Grace & Company, a firm of American steamships, acquired the franchise to build an electric tram in Concepci�n. As a result, Design Electric Company hired General Electric (GE) for installation, and electric trams ordered Brill Company, Philadelphia, opening a trunk line, 15 km long, to the port of Talcahuano in 1908.
