Talcahuano located in the geographic center of the country, three belonging to the province of Concepci�n in the Biob�o Region . The metropolitan area that complies with other cities and towns, including the capital city of the province, is called Gran Concepci�n , reaching northwest of it.
Talcahuano is one of the most important ports in the country, and its economy is mainly based on industry and fisheries. Their motto is: "First military port, industrial and fisheries of Chile" .
The commune bordered on the south Hualp�n ; southeast with Concepci�n and Penco , northeast, north and west by the Pacific Ocean
