around the railway through the streets �lvares and Viana. In 1884 was inaugurated the first bathing facilities located on theMiramar beach and in 1886 formed the first neighborhood outside the center, Recreation , formed on the railway and the road to Valpara�so.

The continued growth of the community in the year 1892 , when Salvador Vergara , son of Jose Francisco Vergara, Vergara formed Population Society, whose aim was to develop the sector and parcel located north of the Marga Marga . Thus began the construction of the Liberty Avenue , around which were built several residential buildings such as houses and cottages. In these same years began to form new districts like Cerro Castillo near the coast, and Chorrillos and Miraflores westward formed parallel to the railway line.

At first the city was an important industry role. One of the first companies vi�amarinas was the arsenal and shipyard Lever, Murphy & Co., established in 1883 in the current Caleta Abarca. This was responsible for the construction of several iron bridges for railroads in the path state south of Santiago, the Muelle Vergara in the coastal city and escampav�a Meteor, first steamship (iron) manufactured in Chile .Another important industry was the Sugar Company refinery Vi�a del Mar (CRAV), founded in 1873.

In 1906 one earthquake struck the central region, leaving hundreds of casualties and destroyed dozens of buildings in various sectors in the area of Valparaiso, Vina del MarVergara Palace , residence of the founding family, one of the most damaged. After this tragedy, a lot of upper class families devastated Valparaiso moved to Vi�a del Mar and increased their population, building small houses for residential use, as Wulff Castle and Palacio Rioja , which later became symbols communal.

For the centenary of the Republic Vi�a del Mar continued to expand, now towards the coastline, where many streets were extended and built others such as Avenida de los Ba�os del
