History of Melipilla

It was founded on October 11th of 1742 by Don Jos� Manso de Velasco , and covers an area of 1,338 km2 . According to the 2002 census, has 108,540 inhabitants.

It borders the following municipalities:

*    to the north by the municipality of Maria Pinto

*    communes in the south of San Pedro and Alhu�

*    by eastern province Talagante

*    on the west, the town of San Antonio in the Valpara�so Region .

 History

The area is inhabited since the last glaciation (Approx 11,000 BC. . Thence groups hunters and gatherers belonging to the Archaic Period of America made their entry into the valleys.
