The Economy Guamuez Valley has had periods of booms and busts. Historically, the first settlers based their livelihood to the rubber industry. Subsequently, based on oil drilling and, almost simultaneously, the exploitation of forest resources, especially cedar. Then arose a rapid population growth which was engaged in trade, agriculture and livestock. After 1980 there were various crises and booms through the processing of coca and the crisis of the pyramids in Colombia . Until 2000, 60% of the population lived in illegal crops, 20% in trade, 10% of the direct
