In the military stands Coyotepe fortress of the early twentieth century . Enacted National Monument on November 15, 1967 by Decree 1398. Site of the Battle of GeneralBenjamin Zeledon against the Americans in 1912 .

Our Lady of the Assumption

Celebrations of the Virgin of the Assumption.

Masaya celebrating festivities in honor of the Virgin of Our Lady of the Assumption on August 15. The festivities take place during the first 15 days of August and end on the 15th, the feast of the Assumption. On August 14 is celebrated Gritería Chiquita .

March 16

This day commemorates the arrest of Santiago volcano eruption that occurred in 1772, according to tradition, by the miracle performed by the Virgin that was carried in procession to nearby. In that act of the virgin image was burned on his right hand and on the big toe of the right foot by what is popularly known as "The Virgin of burned finger".

St. Jerome, patron saint Popular.

On September 30, the festival is celebrated in honor of St. Jerome, popular patron population. The masayeses say Jerome is " rowdy"like them so we have become their patron.
