Quiet seaside village, set among coconut palms, a short walk from the beach, Kampong Cherating has become a haven for those who want to sample kampong life or just hang out in a simple chalet-style budget resort. Over the years it has undergone a metamorphosis into something a little more sophisticated and upmarket. In the 1990s the place was a booming resort with a vibrant backpacker scene. However, in more recent times, tourist numbers have dropped considerably and the increasing number of Malaysian visitors has yet to breach the gap.
