History of Santa Sofia

JuteVilla
The town was founded on January 10, 1810 with the name of Guatoque (broken mount), a name that led up to 1906 , when the prime minister of Boyacá renamed the town by St. Sophia in honor of his wife Sophia Angulo. The change originated with the excuse of permanent confusion between Guateque and Guatoca. The point of the town is the High Mazamorral, where it is an obelisk in honor of the battle fought there during the War of the Thousand Days
