Ambalema is a municipality in the department of Tolima in Colombia. Founded by Lesmes Espinoza in 1627, subsequently Luis
Monzón Serdino and in 1656 set limits Ambalema guard, origin of the present
town, built as such in 1776. It was an important site tobacco
in the nineteenth century.
