Before the Spanish conquerors arrived to this region, and roughly, particularly before reaching the neighboring valley of Ebéjico, it was inhabited by aboriginal tribes and Peques Ebéjicos, both belonging to the family of Nutabes .

When the Iberians arrived, it is known that the place gave several names, the first being San Juan del Pie de la Cuesta, which was changed just a year after the San Jerónimo Cedars, all approximately between 1613 and 1616 .
