The Municipality of Roberto Payan was
founded by Mr. Ignacio Gomez in the year 1730 with the name of
San Jose de las Lagunas and in the year of 1733 was enacted by municipal
ordinance number 27, when San Jose is in the main towns 60 villages. Its main
activity from the colonial era gold mining attracting settlers for its great
mineral wealth from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries however has been
gradually losing ground to be replaced by agricultural and forestry activities
