Prado wise Francisco José de Caldas, in order to conduct studies on the fauna and flora.

During their nine days alternating between Purification and Prado, also was devoted to analyzing mineral sources and sampling to conduct future studies. Dr. MANUEL CAMPOS AND COTE, Priest toured all provinces in order to study the land and needs of the citizens and finally the January 1, 1807 was carried out the transfer of the village to the site where it is located in the Today.

The land on which the city is built was given by Captain CRISTOBAL FLÓREZ VALDEZ. On March 1, 1959 has been examined and approved projects, the work of excavation for the construction of the hydroelectric dam Prado River begin. After 13 years of hard work is achieving complete the work which has 4300 hectares and the service is given the October 12, 1972, making this artificial lake in one of the biggest tourist attractions of the town, for its amazing natural beauty and for being one of the largest in Colombia.
