The municipality is now Prado received the colonial name of village and parish of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquira Meadow River, and its Campiñas were inhabited by tribes of Indians POINCOS. It was discovered in 1545 by Mr. GONZALO JIMENEZ DE QUESADA, on their way to the Valley of Neiva, and was founded on August 12, 1781 by the Lords FRANCISCO SANCHEZ, AGUSTIN PANTOJA, CLEMENTE AND DIEGO Florez, MIGUEL MOLANO, JUAN POLANIA, BARRERO FRANCISCO, JUAN DIAZ, ANTONIO MANRIQUE, JOAQUIN GALINDO, GREGORIO, JUAN LUNA, JOSE VICENTE SANDOVAL and SALDAÑA.
