gave his name, Norcasia because it was almost due north of St. Augustine, the place which the Spaniards came with cargoes, needing a place to rest.

It was proclaimed as a township of the municipality of SamanĂ¡ June 30, 1938, by resolution of the City Council Samana; coincidentally; the June 30, 1999 by Order No. 327 of the Board of Caldas, and ratified by referendum on 15 August, 1999 is raised to the status of municipality.

The process of settlement of this region, lived a series of waves from the opening of the mining and agricultural frontier and the search for a solution to the Magdalena (main means of communication at the time); the expansion of coffee and livestock, based on population centers driven by ethical project - Antioquia and political wars of late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, with all the consequences of political violence and lack of resources to survive , who sought in the Middle Magdalena Caldas and the San Miguel an alternative for survival. On April 11, 2014 The mayor of the municipality of Norcasia, died after being wounded by her husband, who fired several shots after an argument.
