This population is of indigenous origin, prior to the period of the conquest, and populated by indigenous Achaguas Cusianas. The first Spaniards to explore the territory Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada was the late sixteenth century without achieving establishes settlements of importance. Later in the seventeenth century with the arrival of the religious communities, a process of evangelization and penetration of Casanare territory, becoming Chámeza as an entry point to the rest of Ranger territory, this qualifies as one of the oldest municipalities of Casanare develops and Llano in general.
