Celebrations, Dances and Traditions Popular Celebrations

As in most of these small towns, in this municipality the traditional popular celebrations are carried out namely, San Ignacio�s in July, Santa Rosal�a�s in October and Muleg�s in September.

Traditions and Customs

In the Semana Mayor Jesus Christ death is performed - a tradition that dates from 100 years ago. These celebrations are not favored by the Catholic Church but rather they are organized by a group of people of Yaqui origin that wanted to continue the tradition created by their ancestors.

Typical dress

In Muleg�, the pitahaya flower dress is adopted as typical dress, as well as vestments dedicated to the livestock raising activities, as cuera, hat and riding accessories.

Artcraft

The inhabitants of the municipality work in the smelting of metals and they are also devoted to elaborate leather articles like saddlebags and seats among others. In the areas where the abalone, snail and clam capture is practiced the craft of carving figures has been developed.

Gastronomy

The culinary tradition of Muleg� is very rich and varied. Mainly it concentrates on the food elaborated with produce from the sea. This way we have among the most rooted in the region: manta ray, shellfish machaca, padded clams, yellowtail, abalone, chilorio, squid chilorio, breaded squid steak, tripe, clams and fish.

On the other hand, in Santa Rosal�a they have specialized themselves in baking bread which is distinguished by its quality and its recipe and French technique offer to the inhabitants and tourists delicious elaborated forms. This bakery has national and international recognition because most of the ingredients, the techniques and the kneading machines were brought from France.

Sweet

The most traditional are: Papaya in syrup, piloncillo, guayabate, biznaga and taffy.
