changed to "Villagarzón" in honor of its founder who also was its first mayor. In 1971 the works for the construction of the airport in 1973 and begin the first part with paved roads is 8 minutes from the city center and only 40 minutes from Mocoa delivered. The official first flight took place on February 26, 1973.



One of the key features in the historical process Villagarzón is that constitutes the first town created by civilians unlike other communities born by the intervention and initiative of religious communities and the Capuchins. The second historical event was the process acentamiento mestizo born as a response to the demand for raw materials from other regions. Due to this the former Township of Villagarzón, came to have great expectations given the idea to found near Urkusique a new population as a strategy to link more settlers, that relate to the ethnic groups of the region gave rise to a new culture
