In the early thirties, known as Urcusique Villagarzón. It belonged to Mocoa as township. In 1942 Urcusique villagers decided to build their homes again in the flat and lower than the previous site no favoerecía village development by the undulating topography. Founded on December 8, 1946 by the then Commissioner of Putumayo, Colonel (r) GARZON JULIO MORENO.

In 1963 by National Decree was given township character. Became the fourth municipality of Putumayo, by Decree No. 574 of March 14, 1977 and began its administrative activities on May 2, 1977. Amazon Villa name
