On April 12 of 1592 the town was founded by Bernardo de Albornoz. In mid- 1600 , when Luis Enriquez Ubaté visited the corner, yet the church was built, in effect August 2 of Cucunubá the Alarife hired Juan de Robles for construction. The first was Fray Jose doctrinero Muza, who succeeded the Dominicans , and by 1588 the Franciscans , under whose auspices parish was erected in 1836 and remained until December 25 of1897 , when he surrendered to the secular clergy.

On February 26 of 1906 was completed the reconstruction of the church which had deteriorated, on planes Mesa Don Antonio Cortés. On August 6th of 1921 , Monsignor Medina blessed the foundation stone for the construction of the new church of GothicFrench, whose plans submitted by the Engineer Luis Maria Ferreira. Construction began in 1927 with amendments made ​​by the Dutch architect Antonio Staufe. The church was opened on October 27 of 1939 , and finally was blessed by Monsignor Carlos Serna on October 26 of 1941
