Kasserine one of the few ancient cities which owes its fame to the strategic role, politically and economically it has played in the antiquity .

Known to Cilium or Scilli under the Roman Empire , the city was built around the year 80 , during the reign of EmperorVespasian , founder of the dynasty Flavian . Since then, it has preserved within it some vestiges that testify to the development and stability of the times she experienced Roman and Byzantine . The main historical sites dating from these periods are a forum , a triumphal arch built in honor of the Roman emperor Septimius Severus , a capitol , a theater , several houses, a church Early Christian, a strong Byzantine and two mausoleums The mausoleum mausoleum and Flavii Petronnii.

The mausoleum was built in the mid Flavii the II   century by Titus Flavius Secundus in honor and memory of his father, he also demonstrates his pietas . Flavii the family are an established veteran to Cillium, a city became prosperous thanks to the wine culture practiced in the area and the creation of irrigation canals. The mausoleum consists of three floors in a mixture of architectural styles Punic , Hellenistic and Libya . The epigraph is itself of great importance since it appears a long poem in to Latin and Greek prayers dealing with the uncertainty of life after death and certainty about the function of this building. Reading these verses is not easy, hence the difficulty of translation:
