Teguise is a Canarian municipality and town in the north-central and the eastern portion of the island of Lanzarote in the Las Palmas province in theCanary Islands The population is 14,214 (ISTAC, 2003), its density is 53.84/km² and the area is 263.98 km². The town population is around 3,000. The population doubling time is about 20 years and the growth between 2001 and 2003 was at 10.14% It is located north of Arrecife on a main highway of LZ1 and south of Haría. The main industries are agriculture and tourism. The Atlantic Ocean is to the northwest and east and the mountains are around the municipality.

Farmlands dominate the rest of the municipality. César Manrique was born in the area. The insect of the island is the cochineal from which carmine, a dye, is extracted.

The municipality also comprises a number of neighbouring islands including Graciosa,Alegranza, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste and Montaña Clara
