Geochilsan-guk existed in the second and 3rd
and 4th centuries as a chiefdom ofJinhan.
It was absorbed bySillaand renamed Geochilsan-gun. The word
Geochilsan means rough mountain, probably referring toHwangnyeongsan, located at the center
of the city.
