Like most of Ireland, Sligo's climate is characterised by
high levels of precipitation and a low level of annual temperature range.
However, due to the town's position in Sligo
Bay, it has comparatively lower levels of rainfall and warmer year-round
temperatures than many other settlements on the west coast, such as Galway or
Limerick, despite its northerly location.
