Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe

The facade of this temple is of recent construction and neoclassical north side tower. The first temple of Guadalupe was erected in 1855 , but like other churches in the city, was seriously damaged by the earthquake of that year. The pages of history tell us that was built as an offering to the Virgin of Guadalupe, that it might disappear cholera plague that plagued the city at that time. The miracle was fulfilled and the temple served as home to the image of the "Patroness of the Americas" that was installed in the parish on December 25 of 1856 . Pope Pius IX granted the degree of sanctuary, the first to hold that title in Central America. Guadalupe is the temple recently restored by the foundation Coen and the party in his honor is held every December 12 . Holy Week processions of this sanctuary are the most fervent of Chinandega along with the Parish of Santa Ana
