The official date of the founding of the
town of Sopetran was established in February 22, 1616, at the hands of
Francisco Herrera Campuzano, born in Alcalá de Henares (Spain), "The name
of Sopetran was assigned when the altarpiece came Our Lady of the Assumption of
Sopetran. Altarpiece was "imported from the town of Hita in Spain and Roll
by Don Gaspar Diego Arce or Badilla and Arce, as others say, in thanksgiving
for a favor that the Virgin had given him. This altarpiece left Spain in early
sixteenth century and came to this land in 1615, but only on February 22, 1616,
