The Pantágoras Indians, descendants of the Caribs, inhabited the region of what is now the town of Pennsylvania, the East Department of Caldas. His dominions extended 4000 km to the banks of rivers Guarino and Honey, in an area characterized by the variety of climates and geographical environment suitable for mining and fishing, which were the main livelihood activities accidents.

This tribe was exterminated in the Spanish conquest. Several groups of Spanish explorers came to this land in the decade from 1540 to 1550, including Baltasar Maldonado,
