ss="MsoNormal">It is not known the exact date of its foundation which anyway was conducted in 1555 to be transferred to the mountain and back to the Valley. In 1569the mayor of Ruy Baez Sosa offered their land to move the city along the river Guadalajara, the transfer took place on March 4th of 1570 , and its first Lieutenant Governor and Chief Justice, Captain Luis Velasquez, its first mayor , Captain Melchor Valdenebro Velasquez Toro founder and first "Alferez Real" Captain Diego Lazo de la Vega, who also served as mayor.

In 1810 he was part of Buga Confederate cities of Valle del Cauca and provided blood and patriotism of her children including that of General José María Cabal , Cabal Francisco and Miguel. At that time Buga is was one of the cities with the highest economic growth of south-western Colombia.

The King of Spain Don Felipe II , was awarded the title of City in the late sixteenth century and was granted its coat of arms for the many services rendered to the crown.

On January 11 of 1822 , visited the Liberator Simon Bolivar in Buga.  Then  26  and  December 27 of 1829 ; paths plaques placed in homes where they stayed, remember this noble and important event for the city.

Foundation on March 4 of 1570 in a very close to what today are grounds SENA, Graves called, is officially accepted as definitive foundation of Guadalajara de Buga but some time later was moved to the right bank the Stones River , river Guadalajara
