Encino Township was founded on February 15, 1785.

The name of the current City of Encino, according to history, was named the site called "The Encinito", as studies in the region was largely inhabited by Guanes Indians taxed at Cacique Chibcha therefore analyzed this town and conformed an Indian village to the arrival of the Spaniards. It may be considered for its rugged geography which was a refuge for Guanes not welcomed the arrangement created by the Spanish and they called "guards".
