The main tribes of this region were the Journals, and Achipies Pajoyes. The name reflects the memories Pital Indian Pitaló Pitayó or, in earlier times was distinguished chieftain of that area, but when the Spaniards arrived and own land by the Supreme Law of Corona, 1564, there was a crossbreeding ended language modifying the names of places, rivers, villages and chiefs; Spaniards took the sonorous voice that suited them to them; of Pitayó and stayed only Pital.
