In the eighteenth century, as a result of the protections given by the Royal Audiencia of Quito, in the previous century the indigenous reservation of lands Carlosama, which comprised 85% of all usable land in the town is established, that percentage share still preserved, bringing together most of the peasant-indigenous population so far. Legally Cuaspud bias and Canton Carlosama belonging to the Viceroyalty of Popayan, in a relationship is established through the tax system and the kingdom of Quito, in addition to be a tax paying respect to the church, made a trade.
