Confines Township, was founded in 1773 by a Spanish officer named MATEO FRANCO; the territory was inhabited by Indians quines Guanes land belonged to Cacique commanded by Chanchón who lived in what is today El Socorro. His first name was San Jose de las Heads for these spiny plants found in the territory, was called later Confines; for being a place of confinement or jail of the Spaniards
