Before the arrival of the Spaniards, on the west bank of the White River Current, there were two indigenous people whose names were in Chibcha language chiguachí tuche and the second where today the town of Choachí is.

Colonization began before 1563 with the arrival in the land of the Spaniards Juan de Avellaneda, Antonio Bermudez and Francisco Lorenzo (founder of Choachí), the last soldier and fellow Jiménez de Quesada, who because of his faithfulness and provision of military services was appointed by the Magistrate Diego encomendero
