It was founded in 1662 by Diego Salazar Rengifo, who
took numerous indigenous to their trust.In 1854 its name was changed
to Nariño, in honor of Colombian independence precursor, Antonio Nariño , which
he held until 1875.Its current name comes from
the fact the city of Buga been founded on the banks of the river took its name.In
1886 he was elevated to the category of municipality
