lang="EN-US">The inhabitants of these territories at the time of the conquest were the Umbras, andic Guarnes chapatis and it is possible that there were other smaller groups not clearly recorded in the annals of Colombian history.

These communities achieved bumper crops of corn, mainly fed on chocolo, cassava, pepper, ahuyamas, soursop, they extracted palm of milk, butter, and cream. They had cement and fruit trees surrounding their villages. Women wore Ansermas Umbras or blanket, from the waist to the toes they called "skirts". Jorge Robledo found in Anserma, out of great wealth, many very beautiful women (ibid., 1985, II, 164)
