History of Ariguani

"The Hard" was coined by a native population of Chibolo (Magdalena) when the villagers were waiting for a name to identify the emerging village. The author of such appellation was Garizao Don Toribio de Oro, who along with Bartolo Tovar Eustaquio Carrera, first set foot on these lush lands on September 14, 1901, according to historian José Manuel Díaz Barrios. The reason that led him to propose that name, did not go beyond that ensure a permanent establishment in this inhospitable territory but insurance against possible future conflicts.

The Difficult parish was erected in 1962 and until 1967 was part of the extensive Plato Township, after the arduous separatist struggle of its people to make it new municipality of Magdalena and receive a new name: Ariguaní.

Ariguaní proposed by a friend of the name Pro-town because of the difficult, was louder for use as the official name of the new municipality. That was how the November 30, 1967, by Ordinance 14 Bis of the Honorable Assembly created Magdalena Municipality Ariguaní, much of this purpose is achieved through the efforts of Don Alejandro Sierra Maestre through their sons Dr . Raul Maestre Palmera, Departmental Representative and Dr. Luis Maestre Palmera, who signed the ordinance creating the district.

Who initially occupied this territory, are the indigenous Chimilas. There are still vestiges of their culture since one of their settlements they had in the south eastern The Hard (now Barrio Brazil) ransacked by
