History of Sanski Most

The town is mentioned the first time in 1244 during the reign of Bela IV under the name Zana.

During the Bosnian war, Sanski Most was seized by the Serbian forces of the Republika Srpska and remained under Bosnian-Serb control from the spring of 1992 to 1995. During this time, many non-Serbs were killed or forced to flee. In October 1995, the city was liberated by the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, shortly before the end of the war.

In 2004, Oštra Luka was split from Sanski Most and became a territory of the Republika Srpska.

The football club of the town is NK Podgrmec.

The first bin in history of Sanski mosts achieved Milena Bjelovuk, during ŽKK Sana (Women Basketbal Club Sana) which existed in period since 1985. to 1995. under the guidance of coach Branislav Vucenovic. The club was very successful and it has been in league of Bosnia. Club no longer exists.

Sanski Most is home to many different types of stores, and in the city center Konzum is located, part of a food chain from Croatia. There is also a store of the Tuš-chain of food stores. There are many cafés in the city as well as many bakeries.

There are several non-governmental organisations in Sanski Most. Center for Peace building, in the local language "Centar za Izgradnju Mira (CIM)" has been active in the city since 2004. The "Fenix Center", Centar Fenix provides humanitarian aid to the persons in need in the local community
