Culture of Altagracia

The patron saint is San Diego de Alcala and his feast is celebrated from October 28 to November 18 . During the festival takes place Zompopo dance (the leaf cutter ant ) on November 17 . This tradition is mixed with the celebration of the harvest god, Xolotl , existed before the arrival of the Spanish. When the Franciscans came to the island in 1613 , the tradition of dance existed, but they brought with them an image of San Diego de Alcala and eventually managed to
