Culture of Hameln

JuteVilla
The number of employees subject to social insurance in the workplace Hameln is 23,498 (30/06/2009). The percentage of employees in the service sector is above average compared to Lower Saxony, mainly due to BHW (building society). The balance of commuters is plus 5,800 which expresses Hamelns important role as a regional place of employment.

Compared to Lower Saxony, less people obliged to pay social insurance contributions are employed in the manufacturing sector. Structural changes from the industrial to the service sectors in Hameln have thus taken place above average.

Hameln as an administrative and regional centre is home of authorities and services such as: County Court, Employment Office, Industrial Tribunal, Inland Revenue Office, Public Health Department, Youth Institution, Land Registry, District Hospital, District Council Offices, branch of the Chamber of Handicraft Hanover, and branch of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Hanover.

Apart from BHW (belongs to Postbank) the three biggest employers are public enterprises: district hospital, city council and district council. Electrical industry and mechanical engineering (e. g. Volvo Construction Equipment, Reintjes GmbH) are structure-determining elements.

Also of importance are the textiles and carpet industry (Vorwerk) and the chemicals industry (hameln pharmaceuticals).

As far as the food production industry is concerned important employers are Kampffmeyer-Wesermhlen Hameln, Vogeley, and VITAM.

Just outside the town the "Insitut fr Solarenergieforschung (ISFH) GmbH Hameln-Emmerthal" is located, the most important solar energy research institute in Northern Germany
