The Municipality was formed, a group of about seventy families, especially from Guanapalo, a place where fighters accompanying Unda Guadalupe Salcedo, named at the time of the violence. The manager of its foundation, was the Deputy National Army Cavalry Hugo Gamboa Ramirez, commander of the army stationed in Guanapalo, assigned to Battalion based Páez Yopal, Casanare. The houses were built in floor, adobe walls, thatched roof, Sarare pitchforks and adobe walls, in general, taking into account the materials available in the vicinity.

The festivities of the population are held every year on 24 December, but the first was held on December 8, 1954, when the holidays are celebrated in Trinidad reason that this had been abolished as a municipality, festivals considered as a failure. In response, they have continued to hold on December 24 as the anniversary of the founding is celebrated every August 15.
