ass="apple-converted-space"> At the end of 1829, around the main square of San José de Cote had built 69 houses, most of straw, and its inhabitants reached 627.

In 1830 the inhabitants decided to change its name to the San Jose Convention, in memory of Ocaña convention which met between April and June of 1828. From this year until 1857 belonged to the Province of Ocaña. Then, until 1908, he joined the Federal State of Santander. Since 1910 part of the Department of Norte de Santander, which was launched on July 20 of that year.

In 1845 the Town Hall was opened in 1870 and operated the first public school. In 1883 the telegraph office was established in 1888 and created the Circuit Attorney.
