History of San Rafael del Mojan

Its origin dates back to 1832, when he was still a parish of the then province of Maracaibo . Some authors believe that the official name of the San Rafael Moj�n dates from 1841.



The first inhabitants of the region were the Indians paraujanos . It ensures that they lived between the healer or piache Mohan, whose fame was so great that Indians from as far as Los Andes and other regions came to consult. Legends of the place, ensure that the conquistadors who came to this land were treated with piache Mohan. The pronunciation of Mohan, degenerated into Moj�n which is now part of the town's name.



In writings indicated that Mohan was the generic name for all healers in the region, why the name was adopted. The latter is claimed by the newspaper marabino "Truth", which indicates on page A4 of its issue of September 6, 2009 reads as follows: The "mohanes" some healers were witches with practices that served as physicians when Spanish arrived. In our Lake Maracaibo was one which enjoyed much fame, so much so, that neighboring tribes came to him. This man lived in a stilt and was baptized by name site: "The Moj�n". And yet well known to the provincial capital Mara ..



San Rafael Archangel is the patron of the population, hence it's full name is San Rafael in the wet. The natives of this town is the Mojanero lesser degree also known as Mojanense. Being San Rafael of the Moj�n located within the Municipality Mara , the Mojanero also known as Marense.



What is now San Rafael of the Moj�n, consisted of possessions by royal decree was given for raising goats and planting coconuts. Later houses were built up to form what has come to be or Avenida Bolivar Street 2
