Its original name was San Vicente de Castillos. Local tradition regarded as the founding date of April 19, 1866 , whichever day in remembrance of the landing of the Thirty-Three Orientals in Agraciada Beach , was laid the foundation stone of the village chapel. Its founder was Hermogenes Lopez Formoso.
On 3 May 1909 the town is elevated to the category of town, while the 3 November 1952 received city status
