Georgetown has number of historical
churches including Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church, the oldest religious
body in Georgetown. The Hebrew Cemetery of Georgetown dates to the 1760s. The
first Jewish settlers were Sephardim who had been living in London, after their
ancestors were expelled from Spain and Portugal. The town has one synagogue,
