Mangaļu parish was founded in 1935 . year. It stretched about 12 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide strip along the coast of theDaugava river mouth Gauja mouth direction, including parents , Kalngali and garciems . Latvian Encyclopedia the municipality described as "totally unsuitable for agriculture, barren sand dunes and water sastrēgušo sake" . Arable land accounted for only 3.8% of the rural areas, and in this respect Mangaļu Parish ranked in last place among Latvian parishes.
