Economy of Kouvola

JuteVilla
The aim of Kouvola-based WoodInno is to create a wooden products industry and industrial wood construction in the regions of Kouvola and Kymenlaakso, and thereby to create new jobs. WoodInno is rising to this challenge by establishing the operating conditions, development opportunities and training for the wooden products industry and wood construction.

Because of structural change in the forest industry, the Kouvola region has lost thousands of jobs. Change in the forest industry is linked to global transition, which affects the whole of Finland. WoodInno offers the wooden products industry the chance to participate in the research and development projects of the Research and Development Centre.

It also offers companies in the wooden products sector a key location and good operating environment in the growing sphere of the wooden products and construction businesses.

WoodInno’s vision is, in 2015, for Kouvola to be known by its deeds as an ecological national and international pioneer and model city for wood construction, environmentally-friendly repair construction and the wooden products industry, and as an area specialising in the generation of wood-based heat and electricity. Another objective is to develop into an influential city promoting wood construction and the wooden products industry in Finland and throughout the Baltic Sea region.

Society is setting for construction and living increasingly demanding environmental requirements concerning energy efficiency and the life cycle of buildings. WoodInno combines ecological and economic aims, and is rising to the challenges set by the structural changes in the forest industry and global climate change.
