Before the arrival of the Spanish, the indigenous Yariguíes , inhabitants of the neighboring districts, visited this territory, and used oil gushing from their land to rub the skin and protection from insects.

In 1840 they created the village of Yondó under municipality jurisdiction Remedies. In1930 the Dutch oil company Shell bought the land owned by the family Ospina and started exploration work.
