This town is full of history. Its
present serenity contrasts with a turbulent past through amazing feats of
strength natives: Doches, and Pijaos Totoyoes against the Spanish.Following the
search of El Dorado, the Spanish come to this valley and suffer the harsh
environment, so they call it "The Valley of Sorrows." Captain
Juan Alonso, founded for the second time the capital of Huila Department ,
on the site now occupied Villavieja.The village was established on August
18 of 1550 . On November 14 of 1569 ,
was destroyed by the Indians
