mention of the founder of Villa del Rosario, agree that were Ascencia Rodríguez Morales (wealthy matron she inherited from her husband, Don Juan de Morales) and Jose Diaz de Astudillo (who was Governor of the city of San Faustino) which owned most of the broad valley of San Jose, who by deed of 1750 donated the land for its creation.

Towards 1760 highlighted a few ranches in the same place where today the population known as "The Old Rosary."

On July 15, 1771 the main neighboring residents in these valleys, gathered in Board to request the mayor of the town of Rincón Juan Agustín creation of the parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, the name was chosen because of the fervent devotion it was the Virgin Mary and especially the image of Our Lady of the Rosary, which had been granted by the Spanish crown.

On February 11, 1773, Decree of creation of the parish, because of the importance it took was asked to King Charles IV, granted the title of Villa, which was awarded the May 18, 1792 as "Noble Faithful and Courageous Villa "by Royal Charter.

El Rosario is the birthplace of Colombia, within his temple was instructed the gospel, was born right where the new home of the Gran Colombia and was also home to the Congress of 1821
