group of settlers from Santander and other Departments of the Interior of the country, in 1972 the Incora took over the colonization project and due to the great distance that farmers must travel to their supply decided to build on the banks of the Broken "LA PAVA" an agricultural cooperative around which the colonists begin to settle to form a sort of hamlet called Pavas. The runway or landing field built by the Cooperative was enlarged. In those same days the name of the guan changed to "Saravena" does not yet specified exactly whence the word Saravena So while some think that the word is derived U'wa saramina meaning "new mother woman" others contend that comes from the word sararena, Sarare. Saravena part of the municipality of Tame, but arriving colonization was promoted to police inspection, soon was corregimiento and by decree 2004 of 3 February 1976 was erected as a township.
