Currently the town has nine (9) Educational institutions of public character and one private non-profit as well as three (3) schools, one of which is of particular character and which together serve a population approximately 10,500 students

It also has three medical centers, they remain the CAMU Divine Child and two private clinics operating in urban areas, while in rural areas, are operating eight health centers located in the districts of Juan José, La Rica, The Bright, Pica Pica Viejo, Red Torno, Santa Fe Claras, and San Juan, and Puerto Bethlehem.

By the municipal administration has been nine mayors being appointed by decree in order: Callejas Rey Otero, Pedro Blanco Peña, Shirley Bernaza, Ariza Eduardo Calderon, Fernan Fortich Bracamonte, (RIP) July Salgado Hoyos, Darío Salgado Vargas (RIP) Peter White Peña second time, Julio Mercado Ricardo and Manuel Salcedo Palomo, while popular election have possession from 1988 and in sequential order the following mayors: Fernan Fortich Bracamonte, (RIP), Gilberto Grondona Olea, Jose Roque Botero Botero, Sánchez Santiago Negrete, Mario Elias Nader Carrascal, Ramón Rubio Durango, Julio Sánchez Moreno, Tulio Mercado Valderrama, Mario Elias Nader Carrascal, for the second time and the current mayor Reomedres Carrascal Romero.
